- Integrity of the joint
- Detection of any bone fractures
- Detection of osseous lesions/ masses
Who benefits from getting tested?
- People with history of trauma.
- People complaining of pain which on examination appears to be of osseous origin
Are there any contraindications to the examination?
- Pregnant women particularly in the first trimester to avoid harmful effects of ionization radiation on the fetus. It can be carried out for pregnant women only in critical situations after discussion of the potential risks , obtaining informed consent and using abdominal lead aprons.
- Patients who have a known allergy to the intravenous contrast media, patients with impaired renal functions should avoid contrast enhanced study but can perform routine non contrast study safely .
What other tests should be done with this examination?
- Your physician may request further assessment by IV contrast in cases of osseous lesions/ masses.
- Your physician may request further assessment by MRI to allow assessment of tendons, muscles and surrounding soft tissue.
Examination preparations
Patient should be fasting 6 hrs before the exam in case of contrast enhanced study only.

You will lay comfortably on the CT table as the scan takes place. The examination is quick and pain-free

- The examination is done in all our branches.
Are there any aftercare or precautions to be done?
- Only if IV contrast is administered, then you’ll need to drink plenty of fluid after the exam to help wash-out the contrast from your body, except if you are on fluid balance for renal or cardiac conditions, then please review your physician.
- If you are a nursing mother, you might be advised to not lactate for 24 hours after contrast injection .
Are there any possible complications to the examination?
- In very rare cases some patients may experience contrast allergic reaction after IV contrast injection so if you have any previous history of allergy to IV contrast media it is safer to perform the exam without IV contrast.
